RM3241   Dadsonite, boulangerite and siderite
More photos

Dadsonite is a rare chloro-sulfoantimonide of lead, compositionally differing from boulangerite by this chlorine anion (1 atom of Cl for 60 atoms of S!). In the "bad-lands" area of Sant Ponç (or Saint-Pons) there are lenticular levels of siderite and calcite. The formation of this rare sulfosalt is based on the redissolution of other sulfosalts in the presence of chlorides.
The fine needles of dadsonite usually appear included in calcite, along with boulangerite. Once the calcite is removed by chemical processes, needles emerge in all their beauty. It can also be found forming radial aggregates in matrix cavities. The dadsonite from Sant Ponç can probably be considered among the best worldwide.

Size: 7.2 x 5 x 3.8 cm.

RM3240   Dadsonite, boulangerite and siderite
More photos

RM1166   Galena with fluorite and quartz
More photos

Galena crystal on fluorite from Fontsante. The cube crystal is truncated by octahedron faces. It shows a bluish color due to the natural iridescence. Perfectly disposed on a fluorite matrix covered by brilliant small quartz crystals. It was collected in the Saint-Augustin vein (known for its sulphides). It is no easy to find samples with this quality from this French locality. This former fluorite mine started works in 1919 and closed in 1987.

Size: 5.5 x 5.5 x 2.3 cm.
Main crystal: 18 x 17 mm.
Found in ca. 1980's.

RM1175   Cyanotrichite with Chalcophyllite, parnauite
More photos

This aesthetic specimen shows a very rich group of acicular cyanotrichite aggregates, with a deep blue color and brilliance. They're accompanied by green globular aggregates of parnauite. Also we can enjoy groups of green-blue hexagonal chalcophyllite crystals, perfectly defined. The matrix is covered with different iron arsenates. A piece of a classic French mine where today is impossible to get specimens, and less of this quality.

Size: 6.3 x 5.2 x 3.4 cm
Main crystal: 18 x 8 mm aggreg.
Found in ca. 1998.

Very rich group of azurite crystals, with deep-blue color and very bright. Disposed on the matrix as isolated crystals or in rosettes. Good luster and transparence. Observed under the microscope they show an excellent composition. This specimen is from a classic French mine: Cap Garonne. This mines are well known for the rich paragenesis of rare species. Today it is impossible to collect specimens as closed as mining museum.
